On July 1st the FCA officers met with local residents who are opposing plans by the Church (described below). The officers agreed that we would continue to offer the Church a platform to publish its drawings and that we would encourage comment from local residents. Furthermore, we would oppose any application that was detrimental to the Conservation Area. In this context we strongly oppose any tree removal and we will look at the scale and design of any new building and if we consider that it does not enhance the Conservation Area we will oppose it. Matters such as traffic are also important planning issues on which we will take a view. Licencing is not a Conservation Area issue although we have suggested to the Church that it might consider a convenant on the new building to prevent it being used for the type of events that might require a drinks or entertainment licence. Our group has now heard both side of the debate and has set out how it will respond to any application - we are ready to oppose anything which effects the Conservation Area in a bad way and support an application that enhances it. We have seen some initial drawings and gave some views. We await the application to see if these views were taken into account. In order to continue with an informed debate we once again offer this website as a platform for the Church to publish its plans in advance of an application if it so wishes.

On 5th June 2008 some of the officers met with representatives of St Lawrence Church to discuss the plans the Church is devising to build a new structure to replace the vestry.

The plans have caused concern with some local residents due to the potential size and scale, the issue of traffice and parking, and the potential uses for a new structure.

In addition, but separately, the Church wants to remove two mature trees because they say the trees are causing damage to the structure of the main building.

The officers discussed only those issues that relate the buildings and the Conservation Area. We pressed the church group on the issue of the trees and discussed the size, scale and design of the potential new structure.

We were given detailed answers on these matters and we agreed that once the design of a building is settled the Church will be allowed to use this website to inform residents.

The FCA did not endorse the Church's plans and did engage in polite and thorough debate on the various merits and demerits of the potential changes.
